Documentary
Scared Straight!
The filmed depiction of a program where convicts tell troubled kids about the horrors of prison life.
Ulysse
At the sea shore, a goat, a child, and a naked man. This is a photograph taken in 1954 by Agnès Varda. The goat was dead, the child was named Ulysses, and the man was naked. Starting from this frozen image, the film explores the real and the imaginary.
Uncle Yanco
While in San Francisco for the promotion of her last film in October 1967, Agnès Varda, tipped by her friend Tom Luddy, gets to know a relative she had never heard of before, Jean Varda, nicknamed "Yanco". This hitherto unknown uncle lives on a boat in Sausalito, is a...
Gleaners and I, The
Varda focuses her eye on gleaners: those who scour already-reaped fields for the odd potato or turnip. Her investigation leads from forgotten corners of the French countryside to off-hours at the green markets of Paris, following those who insist on finding a use for that which society has cast...
Young Girls Turn 25, The
Agnes Varda's documentary of the celebrations arising from the 25th anniversary of her husband Jacques Demy's film The Young Girls of Rochefort.
World of Jacques Demy, The
Agnès Varda's documentary portrait of her late husband, Jacques Demy. A companion piece to her Jacquot de Nantes.
Gleaners and I: Two Years Later, The
Agnès Varda’s follow-up to her acclaimed documentary THE GLEANERS AND I takes us deeper into the world of those who find purpose and beauty in the refuse of society, revisiting many of the original film’s subjects.
Pleasure of Love in Iran, The
Made at a time when Iran had a seemingly revolving door for incoming European directors and bottomless funding for their projects, Plaisir d'amour en Iran is a short, sort of love story between a handsome Iranian (Ali Raffi) and a visiting French woman (Valérie Mairesse). The film was shot...
Mur Murs
Venturing from Venice Beach to Watts, Varda looks at the murals of LA as backdrop to and mirror of the city’s many cultures. She casts a curious eye on graffiti and photorealism, roller disco & gang violence, evangelical Christians, Hare Krishnas, artists, angels and ordinary Angelenos.
DATABASE SEARCH
DATABASE SEARCH GUIDE
The relation between the filters you can choose from above is “AND” – not “OR“. This allows you to make your search query as detailed as possible.
Example: when you select Director=”Sidney Lumet”, Genre=”Drama”, Film Theme I=”DRAMA THEMES_Courtroom/Legal” and hit the search button without selecting other filters, the search results will show you drama films directed by Sidney Lumet that fit the Courtroom/Legal theme of that specific genre. It will not show you other films directed by Sidney Lumet that do not fit those filters, nor will it show you courtroom drama’s directed by someone else. The more filters you select, the narrower your search, the fewer results you will get.
Please note all film themes are custom made by me, so there is a lot of flexibility involved when assigning films to a specific theme. Not all films have been assigned to a film theme or the other filters – this is a slow, time-consuming work in continuous progress.
All combined I have a total of 2518 movies in my film library, regrouped in 1389 collections and 44 genres.
